The Great Pyramid of Khufu
Built during the Fourth Dynasty around 2580 BCE, the Great Pyramid is the oldest and largest of the three and is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World — and the only one still standing today. Rising originally to a height of 146 meters (now about 138 meters due to erosion), it remained the tallest man-made structure in the world for nearly 4,000 years.
Constructed from over 2 million limestone blocks, the Great Pyramid continues to baffle architects and engineers with its precise alignment and massive scale. Inside, visitors can explore narrow passageways leading to the King’s Chamber, though entry is limited and requires an additional ticket.
Pyramid of Khafre & Pyramid of Menkaure
The Pyramid of Khafre, slightly smaller than Khufu’s but built on higher ground, appears taller. It retains some of its original casing stones at the apex, offering a glimpse into what all three pyramids may have once looked like. Nearby is the Pyramid of Menkaure, the smallest of the trio, accompanied by three subsidiary “queen’s pyramids.”
Each pyramid served as a royal tomb and a spiritual gateway to the afterlife, aligned precisely with the stars and designed to ensure the pharaoh’s safe journey to eternity.
The Great Sphinx – Guardian of the Plateau
Lying to the east of the Pyramid of Khafre is the monumental Great Sphinx of Giza. Carved from a single limestone outcrop, this mythical creature features the body of a lion and the head of a pharaoh — most likely Khafre himself. Measuring 73 meters long and 20 meters high, the Sphinx is the oldest known monumental sculpture in Egypt and remains shrouded in mystery.
Legends and theories swirl around the Sphinx’s original purpose, the meaning of its expression, and the missing nose — possibly destroyed during various invasions or by weathering over centuries. Ancient Egyptians revered it as a powerful guardian of sacred places, and even today, it stirs awe in every visitor.
Saqqara – Birthplace of the Pyramid Age
Roughly 30 kilometers south of Cairo lies Saqqara, one of the most important archaeological sites in Egypt. It served as the necropolis of the ancient capital, Memphis, and is the final resting place for nobles, high officials, and early kings.

Day 03 : Egyptian Museum & Old Cairo
Breakfast at hotel
Morning visit to the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir ocated in the heart of downtown Cairo, the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square is one of the most famous and significant museums in the world. Built in 1902, this historic building houses the largest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts, offering a comprehensive look into the lives, rituals, beliefs, and craftsmanship of one of the world’s oldest civilizations.
A Journey Through Time
The museum contains more than 120,000 objects, many of which are displayed in chronological order. From prehistoric relics to artifacts from the Greco-Roman period, the museum presents Egypt’s full historical arc.
At the core of the collection are items from the Old, Middle, and New Kingdoms, showcasing everything from statues of pharaohs, intricately painted sarcophagi, and funerary objects, to papyrus scrolls, jewelry, and daily-use items that once belonged to ancient Egyptians.
Explore Coptic Cairo:
The Hanging Church (Al-Muallaqa)
One of the oldest and most important churches in Egypt, the Hanging Church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and dates back to the 3rd century AD. It gets its name because it was built atop the southern gate of the Roman Babylon Fortress, giving the illusion that it’s suspended in midair.
The interior is beautifully decorated with icons, wooden beams, and Coptic crosses. It has served as the residence of many Coptic patriarchs and continues to be a place of worship and pilgrimage.
Church of St. Sergius and Bacchus (Abu Serga)
This humble yet deeply sacred church is believed to be built over a crypt where the Holy Family — Mary, Joseph, and the infant Jesus — took refuge during their flight into Egypt. Pilgrims from around the world come to stand in this sacred space, where faith and history blend seamlessly.
Ben Ezra Synagogue
A short walk away is the Ben Ezra Synagogue, located on the site where baby Moses was said to be found in the reeds of the Nile. Although no longer used for regular religious services, it remains a significant historical and architectural landmark. Its delicate woodwork and inscriptions reflect the long-standing presence of the Jewish community in Egypt.
Continue to Islamic Cairo to stroll through Khan El Khalili Bazaar :
The Citadel of Saladin & Mosque of Muhammad Ali
Towering over the city, the Cairo Citadel was built in the 12th century by Saladin, the Muslim hero who defended Egypt from Crusader invasions. Inside the Citadel stands the stunning Mosque of Muhammad Ali, also known as the Alabaster Mosque, a symbol of Cairo’s skyline. Its Ottoman-style domes, elegant arches, and panoramic views make it one of the city's top attractions.
Sultan Hassan Mosque & Al-Rifa’i Mosque
At the base of the Citadel, two monumental mosques sit side by side — the 14th-century Sultan Hassan Mosque, famed for its towering minarets and spacious courtyard, and the Al-Rifa’i Mosque, where members of Egypt’s royal family and the last Shah of Iran are buried. Their grandeur and symmetry reflect the peak of Mamluk architecture.

Visit the Citadel of Saladin, including Mohamed Ali Alabaster Mosque: is a massive medieval Islamic fortress that has dominated the city’s skyline since the 12th century. It was built by Salah al-Din (Saladin) in 1176 AD to defend the city from Crusader invasions. For centuries, it served as the seat of power for Egypt’s rulers, from the Ayyubids and Mamluks to the Ottomans .and commissioned in the 19th century by Muhammad Ali Pasha, the Ottoman ruler who modernized Egypt. Completed in 1848, the mosque was inspired by Istanbul’s Blue Mosque and is one of the most prominent Ottoman-style mosques outside of Turkey.
Tour the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) with the Royal Mummies Hall: Located in Fustat, Old Cairo — just a short drive from the Citadel — the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) represents a groundbreaking development in how Egypt tells its own story. Officially opened in 2021, NMEC is the first museum in Egypt dedicated to presenting the entire history of Egyptian civilization across different time periods, from prehistory through to the modern era.
The Concept and Design
Unlike traditional museums that display artifacts by type or theme, NMEC adopts a chronological approach, offering a smooth and immersive journey through ancient, Greco-Roman, Coptic, Islamic, and contemporary Egypt. The modern architecture of the museum, inspired by Egypt’s desert and Nile heritage, blends simplicity and symbolism. Spacious galleries, digital displays, and interactive technology make the experience informative and engaging for all ages.

Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, a blend of Pharaonic and Roman art: one of the most fascinating burial sites in Egypt and a true reflection of Alexandria's Greco-Roman fusion. Discovered in 1900, the catacombs date back to the 2nd century AD and are carved deep underground into the bedrock.
Pompey’s Pillar and the remains of the Serapeum: Next, head to the nearby site of Pompey’s Pillar, one of the few remaining ancient monuments still standing above ground in Alexandria. This towering 27-meter red granite column, built in honor of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, once formed part of the Serapeum — a magnificent temple dedicated to the Greco-Egyptian god Serapis.
Roman Amphitheater, the only one of its kind in Egypt: Just a few minutes’ drive away is the Roman Amphitheater of Kom El-Dikka, an impressive and well-preserved 2nd-century structure. Featuring 13 marble terraces, the theater once hosted musical performances, lectures, and public events.
