Pyramids Cairo tour
The main visit in the Cairo stopover tour will be to the Giza Pyramids, the most iconic monument in Egypt. The complex of the Giza pyramids includes three massive pyramids, which were originally built to incorporate the burial chambers of three kings from the 4th dynasty: Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure.
The Pyramid of King Khufu is the largest, so it is known as “the Great Pyramid” and it holds unique significance as it is the only surviving monument of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Next to the Great Pyramid, you’ll see three small pyramids known as “queen’s pyramids”.
The second one is the Pyramid of khafre. You may notice that it appears taller than the Great Pyramid because it is constructed on higher ground. Also, it is the only Pyramid that still has remains of the outer alabaster layer on its top.
It is to be mentioned that each pyramid was originally part of a large funerary complex that consisted of a valley temple, a causeway, and a mortuary temple before the main Pyramid. The valley temple of Khafre’s Pyramid complex is the only preserved one, so you can visit it and learn about its function as the place where the mummification and purification of the deceased king were performed.
Nearby the valley temple, you’ll meet the most iconic Egyptian statue, the sphinx. It is a massive statue with the body of a seated lion and the head of King Khafre. There were many theories about its function, but the most accepted one is that it was a symbol of protection for the royal necropolis.
Then, you’ll explore the third Pyramid of King Menkaure and have some free time to explore the site at your own pace. You can also enjoy a camel ride and purchase some souvenirs before heading to the panoramic viewpoint to conclude our tour with an incredible view of the three pyramids and the Sphinx.
Grand Egyptian Museum tour
Next, we’ll move just 2 kilometers away from the Great Pyramids of Giza to visit the Grand Egyptian Museum. From the moment you enter the museum, you can feel the grandeur of ancient Egypt blending with the modern and Elegant atmosphere of the museum. In the grand hall, you’ll meet the colossal statue of King Ramses II before having a tour of the main galleries of the museum with our professional Egyptologist.
