Luxor East Bank tour
During the New Kingdom era, Luxor was known as “Thebes”, and it had great significance as the capital of Egypt and the center of the worship of the God Amun. The river Nile flowed through Thebes and divided it into two banks. The east bank was known as the land of the living and was dedicated to the construction of the greatest temples dedicated to the god Amun.
Karnak Temple Tour
Our first stop will be at the Karnak complex, which comprises approximately 25 temples and chapels constructed over 1300 years and dedicated to the god Amun, along with his wife, the Goddess Mut, and their son, Khonsu.
Many pharaohs wanted to contribute to the construction of this great religious center, so there is a lot to explore there. 11 pylons connected by columned halls, chapels, and statues.
At the beginning of the Karnak Temple Tour, you’ll visit the great temple of the God Amun. The main highlight of the temple is the Great Hypostyle Hall, which has 134 impressive columns covered with hieroglyphs.
Luxor Temple tour
Then we’ll head to the Temple of Luxor, only 3 km from the Karnak complex. They were once connected by the avenue of sphinxes, which was used as a processional way during a significant feast called “the opet festival” when the triad of Amun, Mut, and Khonsu were transported from the Karnak temple to the Luxor temple.
Firstly, you’ll witness the iconic facade of the temple, preceded by a towering obelisk and six colossal statues flanking the entrance to the temple. Then stroll in the courts of the temple to see the impressive columns and statues and listen to your tour guide explaining the interesting scenes of the opet festival and the divine birth before reaching the sanctuary to learn about the most important part of Egyptian temples.
