Tour Plan

Day 1: Arrival to Siwa Oasis

Your Siwa Oasis trip into the heart of the desert begins with a long but scenic transfer. Most travelers arrive via a private vehicle from Cairo, Alexandria, or Marsa Matrouh, driving through barren yet beautiful desert landscapes.

As you approach Siwa, the scenery changes dramatically; lush palm groves, olive orchards, salt lakes, and sand dunes mark your arrival in one of Egypt’s most unique regions.

After checking into a charming eco-lodge or mud-brick guesthouse built in traditional Siwan style using local materials, you’ll have time to relax and enjoy your first local meal. Siwan cuisine often includes couscous, tagine, dates, olives, and locally grown vegetables.

In the afternoon, begin your Siwa Oasis trip exploration with a visit to the Shali Fortress, the historic heart of Siwa. Built in the 13th century from a mixture of salt and mud-brick known as kershef, the fortress was once a fortified village where locals lived for centuries. Though much of it was damaged by heavy rains in the 1920s, its towering ruins still stand majestically in the center of town. Climbing to the top offers panoramic views of the surrounding palm groves, minarets, and desert horizon.

Next, head to the legendary Temple of the Oracle of Amun, located just outside the town on a rocky plateau. This sacred site dates back to the 6th century BC and is famous for being visited by Alexander the Great in 331 BC. He traveled across the desert to seek a divine prophecy, and it was here that the oracle allegedly declared him the son of Amun, legitimizing his rule over Egypt. Walking through the ruins, one can still feel the spiritual energy of this once-mighty temple.

As the sun sets, take a stroll through Siwa’s traditional market, where you’ll find handmade crafts, embroidered clothing, natural salt lamps, and bottles of organic olive oil and dates.

The day ends with a relaxing dinner and a chance to experience the peaceful desert night under a sky full of stars.

Day 02 : Nature, Springs, and Desert Safari

Your second day in the Siwa Oasis trip begins with a journey into the oasis’s natural and historical treasures.

After a traditional breakfast, make your way to Gebel al-Mawta, or the Mountain of the Dead, a limestone hill scattered with ancient rock-cut tombs. Dating back to the Ptolemaic and Roman periods, many tombs still bear colorful murals and hieroglyphics, though some are weathered with time. The site offers both archaeological insight and beautiful views over the oasis.

Next, cool off at one of Siwa’s most famous natural springs, Cleopatra’s Spring. This round, stone-lined pool is fed by a continuous natural hot spring and is a favorite spot for swimming and relaxation. Surrounded by palm trees and open-air cafes, it’s easy to see why legends say Queen Cleopatra herself may have bathed here. Take a dip, sip a fresh date juice, and enjoy the tranquil setting.

Continue your morning with a visit to one of Siwa’s salt lakes. The high salt concentration in the water makes floating effortless, offering a similar experience to the Dead Sea. The surreal blue of the water set against white salt crusts and golden desert is a photographer’s dream.

After lunch and some rest, the afternoon takes you on a thrilling desert safari into the Great Sand Sea, a massive expanse of rolling dunes stretching to the Libyan border. Climb into a 4×4 jeep for an off-road adventure that includes: Sandboarding down steep dunes. Visiting the mysterious Cold Lake in the middle of the desert. Swimming in Bir Wahid, a bubbling hot spring in the sands. Experiencing complete silence in the wide-open desert.

As the sun sets over the dunes, you’ll witness one of the most magical moments in Siwa Oasis trip Egypt, golden light transforming the sand into shades of orange, red, and purple.

Dinner is served Bedouin-style, with grilled meats, traditional bread, and hot tea around a campfire. The desert night sky, untouched by city lights, reveals thousands of stars and constellations.

Return to your lodge with memories of the desert’s mystical beauty etched into your mind.

Day 03 : Local Life and Departure

Your final day in the Siwa Oasis trip begins gently, perhaps with a visit to Fatnas Island, also known as Fantasy Island. Located on the edge of Siwa Lake, this peaceful spot is ideal for morning walks or watching the sunrise. A small spring surrounded by palm trees provides a scenic place to relax, reflect, and take in the oasis views one last time.

After breakfast, visit the Siwa House Museum, a small but insightful place that showcases the region’s culture, architecture, and daily life. Here, you’ll learn about Siwan marriage customs, traditional dress, and tribal heritage, offering a deeper understanding of the people who have called this oasis home for centuries.

Depending on your departure time, enjoy some free time to buy souvenirs or sip coffee at a local café before saying goodbye to this magical place. Then, begin your journey back to Cairo, Alexandria, or your next destination.
