7 Days

Overview

Egypt is a land of wonder, mystery, and timeless beauty. For centuries, travelers have been drawn to its ancient monuments, vibrant culture, and rich heritage. This 7-day, 6-night journey through Cairo and Alexandria offers a perfectly balanced blend of pharaonic grandeur, Islamic and Coptic heritage, and Greco-Roman treasures. From the majestic pyramids of Giza to the stunning Mediterranean coastline, every day of this itinerary unveils a different chapter of Egypt’s storied past.

Day 1: Arrival in Cairo – Gateway to Ancient Civilization
Upon arrival at Cairo International Airport, guests are welcomed and transferred to their hotel. After check-in, the rest of the day is at leisure to recover from the journey or explore the surroundings. Depending on arrival time, an optional evening Nile Dinner Cruise offers a memorable first impression, featuring traditional Egyptian music, belly dancing, and panoramic views of Cairo lit up at night. It’s a peaceful and enjoyable start to the adventure.

Overnight in Cairo.

Day 2: The Giza Plateau – Pyramids and the Sphinx
The journey into Egypt’s ancient world begins with one of its greatest wonders: the Giza Pyramids. Located just outside the city, the pyramids of Khufu (Cheops), Khafre, and Menkaure dominate the desert landscape. These towering tombs have stood for over 4,500 years and remain a marvel of engineering. A visit inside one of the pyramids (optional) reveals the fascinating construction and rituals of ancient times.

Nearby stands the Great Sphinx, the enigmatic limestone statue with a lion’s body and human head, believed to represent Pharaoh Khafre. The Valley Temple, part of the pyramid complex, offers insight into the mummification and burial process.

After lunch at a local restaurant, guests may visit a papyrus institute or perfume shop, where traditional Egyptian crafts are demonstrated.

Overnight in Cairo.

Day 3: Museums of Cairo – Ancient Treasures and Royal Mummies
Today’s focus is on Egypt’s most remarkable museums. The first stop is the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, home to the world’s largest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. Among the highlights are the golden death mask of Tutankhamun, a vast array of statues, jewelry, and funerary items, and the hauntingly preserved relics of pharaonic life and death.

After lunch, head to the modern National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) in Old Cairo. Unlike the Egyptian Museum, NMEC offers a chronological view of Egyptian history from prehistoric times to the modern era. Its most famous feature is the Royal Mummies Hall, where visitors can come face-to-face with some of Egypt’s greatest rulers, including Ramses II and Hatshepsut.

In the evening, guests can enjoy a “Cairo by Night” tour, exploring the vibrant nightlife along the Nile or relaxing in a traditional café in Downtown Cairo.

Overnight in Cairo.

Day 4: Old Cairo and Islamic Cairo – Spiritual Crossroads
Today is a deep dive into Cairo’s religious and architectural heritage. Begin with a tour of Coptic Cairo, visiting sacred Christian landmarks like the Hanging Church (Al-Muallaqa), built atop the ruins of a Roman fortress, and the Church of St. Sergius and Bacchus (Abu Serga), believed to be a resting place of the Holy Family during their flight into Egypt. Nearby is the Ben Ezra Synagogue, one of Egypt’s oldest synagogues.

Next, explore Islamic Cairo, beginning with the Citadel of Saladin, an imposing fortress with stunning views of Cairo. Within its walls lies the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, known for its grand Ottoman-style domes and alabaster walls.

Continue to the magnificent Sultan Hassan Mosque and the nearby Al-Rifa’i Mosque, both fine examples of Mamluk architecture. The day ends with a visit to the bustling Khan El Khalili Bazaar, where travelers can shop for spices, souvenirs, and handcrafted goods while enjoying mint tea at El Fishawy Café, one of Cairo’s oldest.

Overnight in Cairo.

Day 5: Alexandria – Coastal Charm and Ancient Glory
After breakfast, the tour continues with a journey north to Alexandria, Egypt’s second-largest city and a coastal gem (approx. 3-hour drive). Founded by Alexander the Great, Alexandria offers a unique blend of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman influences.

The day begins with a visit to the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, an ancient underground burial site blending Egyptian and Roman elements. Then explore Pompey’s Pillar, a massive red granite column dedicated to Emperor Diocletian, and the nearby Roman Amphitheater, a well-preserved arena once used for music and speech performances.

After lunch at a local seafood restaurant on the Corniche, enjoy free time for a stroll along the Mediterranean or visit local markets.

Overnight in Alexandria.

Day 6: Alexandria Highlights – The Library and the Fort
Begin with a visit to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a stunning modern revival of the ancient Library of Alexandria. The library is more than just a reading space—it includes museums, galleries, and a planetarium. It’s a hub for learning and cultural exchange.

Next, head to the historic Qaitbay Citadel, a 15th-century fortress built on the site of the ancient Pharos Lighthouse, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. With panoramic views of the sea, it’s a perfect place to reflect on Alexandria’s historical significance.

Later, walk through the Montaza Palace Gardens, a beautiful royal retreat with palm-lined pathways and views of the royal palace. In the late afternoon, return to Cairo.

Overnight in Cairo.
